Local professional dryer vent cleaning company, NorthStar Services, Inc., announces a $40 reduction in its service fees to help ease the burden of increased living costs for its customers and to reduce the number of dryer fires caused by lint build up.

According to the U.S Fire Administration, 15,600 structure fires, 15 deaths, and 400 injuries occur every year due to clothes dryer fires. Of these fires, 12,700 of them occurred in residential buildings, resulting in 15 deaths and 300 injuries. When investigated, the number one reason for these dryer fires was the failure to clean the dryer vent and dryer exhaust.

Normal use of the dryer produces lint. Over time the lint will become trapped in the dryer vent and dryer exhaust, causing the inside of the dryer vent to become clogged. A clogged dryer vent will cause reduced airflow through the vent and the dryer motor has to work harder, causing it to overheat. If enough heat is generated, it can cause the lint and surrounding combustible items to ignite. A fire has stared.

The Fire Department recommends that the dryer vent and dryer exhaust are cleaned every six months to a year, depending on how large a family is and how much laundry is done. Dryer vent length and the number of 90 degree bends in the vent also contributes to the frequency of it needing cleaned. A good indication that a dryer vent needs cleaned is when normal loads of laundry are taking more than 40-60 minutes to dry
